A poet, Dr. Benito del Pliego was born in Madrid, Spain, and has lived in the United States since 1997. He is a Spanish professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Appalachian State University. He has published numerous poetry books, including “Índice” (2004; 2011), “Extracción” (Mexico, 2013) and “Dietario” (2015). One of his books has been recently translated into English by Sam Carter and published in a bilingual edition in New York under the title “Fábula/Fable.”
Del Pliego’s work has been included, among other anthologies, in Forrest Gander’s “Panic Cure, Poetry from Spain for the 21st Century” (2013) and “Malditos latinos malditos sudacas: Poesía iberoamericana made in USA” (México, 2010). He has also written critical pieces and edited works such as “Extracomunitarios: Nueve poetas Latinoamericanos en España” (Madrid, 2013). In collaboration with Dr. Andrés Fisher– also a DLLC professor– he has edited “Yunaites: Poesía en español en los EE.UU.” (Sao Paulo, 2013) and translated selections of poetry by Lew Welch (“Círculo de Hueso,” 2013), Phil Whalen (“Cualquier día,” 2015) and Gertrude Stein (“Objetos y retratos. Geografía,” 2014).
