Background and Expertise
About
Dr. Catherine D. Marcum joined the Department of Government and Justice Studies in 2012 and served as department chair from 2022 to 2025. Marcum is also the interim associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She earned a Ph.D. in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her areas of teaching and research focus on correctional issues, cybercrime and victimization, and she very much enjoys working with students on research. She has published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and 20 books in her fields. Marcum is the current editor of the "Journal of Criminal Justice Education," a journal of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. She is an active volunteer for the Girl Scouts of America, Watauga County Schools and other community organizations.
