About
Dr. Derek Martin is an associate professor of geography and the graduate program director for the Department of Geography and Planning at Appalachian State University. He is a broadly trained physical geographer with research interests in fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, water resources and field applications of geospatial technologies. His research spans local, regional and international (South America, Jamaica) locales. He teaches primarily physical geography and quantitative methods courses across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and also leads study abroad courses to the tropical Andes and the Caribbean. He received his Ph.D in geography from the University of Tennessee in 2014, and began his career at App State the same year.
