Dr. Mark Bolinger

Dr. Mark Bolinger is an assistant professor of management in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. Bolinger holds Ph.Ds in entrepreneurship from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and in molecular and integrative physiology from the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He also served as an intern at the University of Michigan's Technology Transfer Office.  

Bolinger’s research broadly focuses on the effects that external actors (such as stakeholders) and entrepreneurs have on ventures, each other and themselves in the context of venture performance. This research explores themes like venture support, impression management, entrepreneurial identity, entrepreneurial motivation and the effects of external actors on entrepreneurship. Past research topics also concern epithelial cell growth and diabetes-related vision loss.  

Bolinger is a past recipient of the App State Dean’s Club grant, runner-up for the Dean’s Club Research Award, and has published in Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, and other leading management and entrepreneurship journals.
