Dr. Rwany Sibaja

    Background and Expertise

    About

    Dr. Rwany Sibaja researches the cultural history of modern Latin America, with a focus on games and leisure. His current research centers on class discourse, national identity, and violence in Argentine soccer. He is also in the early stages of investigating civic identity and the development of games, recreational spaces, and pastime activities in Costa Rica. A digital historian and former social studies educator and curriculum director, his other interests include the role of digital tools and Active Learning Classrooms in the teaching of the past. Prior to joining Appalachian State, Sibaja enjoyed a postdoctoral fellowship at UMBC and worked at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (George Mason University). His works have been published in the International Journal of the History of Sport, Soccer & Society, The Latin Americanist, Journal of Sport History, as well as chapters in edited books on sports.
